Gary Frank Sketch

July 27, 2007: Gary Frank Reveals His Superman Sketchbook

WizardUniverse.com has published some sketches produced by artist Gary Frank for his up-coming run on "Action Comics". Here's an excerpt from the article...

Starting in October, artist Gary Frank joins superstar writers Geoff Johns and Richard Donner for Action Comics #858, a 30-page extravaganza marking Frank's starting line on the Man of Steel.

And according to Johns, the finish line is nowhere in sight. "He'll be on for good," says the writer, who previously worked with Frank on Avengers [Vol. 3] #61-#62. "We're going for very classic stories in Action with modern interpretations. Our first arc is called 'Superman and the Legion of Super-Heroes.' It spins out of the JSA/JLA crossover, but it's really a story that stands on its own. It's Superman finding out what's happened to the Legion."

Frank, whose modern style still echoes the design sensibilities of classic Superman artists such as Curt Swan, gave us a peek inside his sketchbook for the series. While he wouldn't confirm when, or if, all these characters would make it into his run, he did include a few folks certain to make an appearance.

Read the complete report, including Gary's sketches for Superman, Bizarro and Darkseid, at the Wizard Universe website.
