Superman/Batman #37

June 20, 2007: Dustin Nguyen Talks “Superman/Batman”

Artist Dustin Nguyen spoke with WizardUniverse.com about his up-coming work on the "Superman/Batman" comic book title. Here's a few excerpts from that interview...

    Q: What's planned for your Superman/Batman arc?

NGUYEN: We're going to have some really cool team-ups - obviously Superman and Batman, Scarecrow and Killer Croc, and Darkseid's coming in. You're going to see some Highfather and a lot of Fourth World stuff. It gets really interesting.

Q: How do you approach Superman?

NGUYEN: Superman is entirely new. Every time I draw it's like, "Oh, this is cool. Let's do this again."

Q: Superman's design is so much more trimmed down than Batman's - less cloth and edges and such. What's the secret to conveying emotion with him and keeping him interesting?

NGUYEN: You have a lot more to work with with Batman. You also have the whole atmosphere going. With Superman, I think it's one of those things where you've got to get facial expressions. His costume is obviously very open, so you've got to give him gestures. He's also a little more lighthearted and happy.
