August 28, 2000: Mark Waid Leaves JLA

WizardWorld reports that current JLA writer Mark Waid has taken a full-time, exclusive job with new publisher CrossGeneration Comics. Waid will complete his current contracts and then move on to CrossGen in January 2001.

"There's only so much I can do as a freelance writer, one book at a time, to be part of the solution and not part of the problem for comics," Waid said. He explained that he really wanted to use his experience as a former DC Comics editor to work on more than just writing comic books. "Don't get me wrong - I love writing comics," he said. "But for a long time now, I've been itching to put to use all the other editorial and business skills I've acquired along my way."

Waid's JLA run should end sometime in late 2001, between #50 and #60.
