October 12, 2000: What to get for a JLA that has everything?

Man of Steel reveals gift-giving secrets in Superman #165

Continuing the grand DC tradition of special holiday stories, this December, the Man of Steel takes some time to distribute his Christmas gifts to those who matter to him most: his fellow members of the Justice League. Of course, things are never quite that simple, as each JLA member gives Superman their thoughts on both the Christmas spirit and recent events in the DC Universe. Featuring holiday visits with the Flash, Wonder Woman, Batman, Aquaman, Green Lantern, Plastic Man and the Martian Manhunter, SUPERMAN #165 finds the Man of Steel working his way towards his nearest of dearest of all, Lois Lane.

According to SUPERMAN Editor Eddie Berganza: "It's a fun issue that explores Superman's relationship with his fellow Leaguers--haven't you always wondered what kinda gifts heroes exchanged? We also get to see another side of the Man of Steel where he is in a situation he can do nothing about. Finally, the best part of this issue is who is working on it alongside the regular team."

Written by Jeph Loeb with art by regular SUPERMAN artists Ed McGuinness and Cam Smith, SUPERMAN #165 also features artwork by a special holiday all-star cast featuring Joe Madureira/Tim Townsend, Art Adams, Humberto Ramos/Wayne Faucher, Rob Liefeld/Norm Rapmund, Mike Wieringo/Cam Smith, and Ian Churchill/Norm Rapmund, who each add their distinctive styles to chapters focusing on Superman's conversations with various Justice League members.

According to SUPERMAN writer Jeph Loeb: "Christmas came a little early to me and Senior Editor Eddie Berganza. We put together a wish list of folks who had either never drawn Superman (or who we wanted to see draw Superman) and Santa came through in heroic proportions. Each artist has a three-page story featuring Superman and a member of the Justice League; we're dashing through the snow big time here!"

While the holidays arrive in a flurry of snowflakes, strange things are afoot as well, as evidenced by a curious appearance by the Linear Men. For longtime DC readers, that can spell only one thing... something big and dangerous is approaching. Sharper readers will keep tuned to the Superman titles monthly without missing a beat and watch this DIRECT CHANNEL space for news updates from Metropolis.

SUPERMAN #165 (OCT00 0544) arrives in stores on December 6 with a cover price of $2.25 U.S.
