March 15, 2000: Super Summit Highlights
Here are some of the highlights to come out of the most recent Superman Summit, the meeting of the Superman Comics Creative Teams to discuss the coming year of Superman stories, as reported by Newsarama who spoke to Jeph Loeb...Jeph said, "The summit was amazing. We have a real synergy going now, particularly with Eddie [Berganza]. Coming up just between now and the summer - we'll be looking into the problems that Lois and Clark have been having and find out the real deal between all that. There's been a lot of talk on the Net about how Lois hasn't been acting like herself - and, while all the clues have been there from the start of our run - we'll be opening up that door really wide and hopefully, there will be some surprises! Needless to say, folks have wondered if we should change the title of the book to Superman's Enemy, Lois Lane!.
"Also, since October, there has been another little mystery brewing concerning Superman's health - some of which folks have caught onto and some of which folks are going to be caught blindsided by. Needless to say, it won't be easy to get out of and that usually means you need someone to help... and help comes in the form of The Atom. The May shipping books, which are all connected, focus on a story called 'Critical Condition' and when it is all done, someone may not make out it alive."
"A lot of readers have wanted to see Green Lantern to drop by and in June, Superman and Kyle go out for a little space adventure that brings back Maxima - but not for any reason that we've seen her before," Loeb continued. "People really responded to how Mongul came back and Maxima has an equally surprising twist to her return. Then, this summer will be huge. More on that later, but I'll leave you with 'Me am sad about Summer. Me want it to be bad'."
Loeb also discussed how the new team have come together really well, explained that there will be returning characters and villains that fans have been asking to see again for quite some time. The Triangle/Shield numbering of the Superman comics was also an issue discussed, which Loeb says will be relaxed somewhat, but that some of the stories are so big that they can't be contained within one title, but that fans can look forward to more stand alone stories, giving us more variety.
Loeb finished by saying, "I think the most rewarding thing is that people are talking about Superman again. We all know he's the best character in comics and we want what is best for him. So, if you're not reading the books -- and yes, we know there are a few of you - now is as great a time as any to JUMP ON!"
