May 18, 2000: Superman No.1 (1939) on Auction!
On May 25th, Swann Auction Galleries will hold its "Maps & Atlases, Decorative Graphics and Ephemera" sale. This auction will feature a copy of Superman #1 (1939) from Detective Comics. This particular copy is one of the earliest editions in the series. Originating as a rejected newspaper strip in 1934, the first comic book appearance of Superman was Action Comics #1 in 1938, followed by Superman #1 in 1939.The comic book is estimated at US$8,000 - US$12,000. Representation at the auction is not necessary, as absentee bidding by telephone and advance "order" bids are welcomed.
