August 5, 2000: Superman News from the Wizard World Chicago Comic-Con

Intreped reported for the Superman Homepage, Nick Newman has just returned from Wizard World in Chicago, filing the following report:

Nick talked to Jeph Loeb and Joe Kelly and learned a few interesting things. Some of these you may have heard before, but all are worth repeating here...

  • Luthor's slogan for his election: "Truth, Justice, and the American Way" (by the way, he's running for the Tomorrow Party).
  • His running mate is to be announced in Superman #161, and all the writers would say is that it is someone with influence. They also mentioned something about the Midwest. My guess, Pete Ross. Bruce Wayne is also going to have something major to do with it. There is an upcoming Batman story by Greg Rucka (sp?) called "You Have Something I Want" where Batman and Luthor meet.
  • Mongul's sister is not forgotten and a story is still in planning.
  • There are plans to visit the Phantom Zone and find some things and some people there.
  • A slide was shown of a cover for sometime next year of a McGuinness-drawn Superman battling a very big Imperiex.
  • Reportedly, the Superman books go largely unlinked this coming year, except for two stories.
  • The "Superman Babysitter" story from the shredded Elseworld's 80-Page Giant #1 is going to be printed in a hardcover "Bizarro Tales" or something similar.
  • Young Justice is going to be appearing in an up-coming Superman storyline.
  • Pluto missing is going to be addressed some time in the coming year.
  • Expect fallout from the "Critical Condition" storyline, because according to Joe Kelly, when they cured Superman they had to take stuff out of him.
  • DC Comics are going to publish a book called "Luthor 2000", the definitive Luthor origin.
  • Just a weird story to leave off with... The whole Emperor Joker story came out of Joe Kelly making a plastic fork into a creature and playing with it during a conference...
