April 1, 2015: Our "April Fools Day" Prank News Reports

For a number of years now we've toyed with the emotions of Superman fans on April 1st, creating April Fools Day Prank news reports that catch people unawares, create a few heart palpitations, and hopefully generate a few giggles. If you missed them earlier today, here are the three news items I came up with this year.

April 1, 2015: CBS Rejects Supergirl TV Pilot

Supergirl After a tumultuous production filled with script issues and in-fighting amongst cast members, CBS has decided to cancel the "Supergirl" TV series. The series will not be joining CBS's new shows this fall.

It seems that a trio of costumes and some last-minute shooting and script adjustments weren't enough to save the hopeful super-heroine series. Fan reaction to leaked production photos and the first reveal of Supergirl's costume only served to fuel the fire.

CBS shelved the series today, shutting down the Warner Bros. TV-produced project. Sources inside the network claim that executives weren't impressed with the initial episode and decided against a series based on negative fan reaction on the internet over the last few weeks.

Executive Producer Greg Berlanti said, "It all depends on the script. We were very careful with Arrow and The Flash. These are iconic characters, but it just wasn't working out with Supergirl. You only get one shot before you get bit."

April 1, 2015: Lois and Jimmy Romantically Involved Post-Convergence

Jimmy and Lois Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen, two of the most iconic characters of the comic book world, are about to become the new DC Comics power couple.

The romance follows DC Comics' "soft reboot" of almost its entire comics range after the 2-month "Convergence" event in April and May.

Writer Gene Luen Yang said that a significant event was set to send the two Daily Planet staff members into each other's arms in the new comic "Superman #42", out on July 22.

DC Comics Co-Publisher Dan DiDio told Entertainment Weekly that the new relationship would not be a "one-issue stunt", rather that "this is the new status quo".

DC believes the linkup makes sense, because both characters "work closely together", but both - as well as being really, really, really ridiculously good-looking - never usually mix business with pleasure. "Something happens to change all that".

April 1, 2015: Strange Spacecraft Crashes in Kansas Field

Rocketship Late last night a bright blue light startled residents of Scranton, a small town situated in Kansas, USA. Some people think that the light may be connected to the strange craft that farmers found early the next morning.

Eyewitnesses said they saw an object falling from the sky. Soon after they heard a "huge piercing sound," and a huge ball of flame came crashing down into the field of one of the local farmers.

What they found in the field looks straight out of a science-fiction movie. It appears to be a large metal ball covered by a layer of jagged material.

When the farmer and his wife approached the strange object they swore they heard sounds coming from within the object that sounded like "a cat or baby crying".

It wasn't long before government investigators recovered what they claim were "parts from a carrier rocket or a satellite" that "appeared to have fallen from the sky on Tuesday".

Watch video of the farmer's discovery to hear the noises they heard from within the object.

Hopefully those who got caught out weren't too angry and took these pranks in the spirit they were intended.
