May 15, 2015: Rare Superman Comic Book Cover Artwork on Auction

Superman #12 Artwork The original artwork for the 1941 "Superman #12" comic book cover will be sold at auction later this month through Heritage Auctions in Dallas.

The nostalgic collector's piece is an original blueprint! And just like the original Mona Lisa, there's only one in existence.

"You just don't see original art from the 40's that much, especially not covers with Superman," comic art coordinator Barry Sandoval explained.

Believe it or not, we're told this artwork would've sold for just 10c back in the day, but on May 28th the bid is expected to soar up to $130,000 - or more!

"This was basically a half a year before Pearl Harbor so it was interesting to see that they were already doing war-themed covers, even though the US hadn't entered the war yet at that point," Sandoval added.

Yep, legendary comic artist Fred Ray perfectly depicted the man of steel marching arm in arm with America's servicemen, ready to save the day!
