Bob Holiday

October 14, 2008: Historic Lost Superman Footage Now Online

Superman fans are fortunate that so many of the Man of Steel's live-action performances are available on DVD. There is, however, one great exception: Bob Holiday's acclaimed role as Superman in the 1966 Broadway musical "It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's Superman."

Although the original cast album of this Charles Strouse/Lee Adams masterpiece has been a steady-seller for more than 40 years, the original stage play was never filmed - except for one part. Long thought to be lost, the "The Story of Superman", a newsreel created specially for exhibition during "It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's Superman," can now be seen on www.SupermanBobHoliday.com.

Produced in the style of a classic educational film, the newsreel was shown during each performance of the play. It appears in a crucial scene in which Lois Lane unwittingly shows the film, from the Daily Planet archives, to the evil Dr. Abner Sedgwick. After viewing it, Sedgwick decides that public adulation is vital to Superman, and he proceeds to try to destroy him using psychoanalysis.

"The Story of Superman" is the latest exclusive content added to www.SupermanBobHoliday.com, the official website dedicated to Bob Holiday, the only actor ever to portray Superman on the Broadway stage. Also new this month is the middle section of Bob's rare TV appearance as Superman in a 1966 episode of the classic game show "I've Got a Secret". This is believed to be the only existing footage showing Bob Holiday flying onstage as Superman.

Web Hostess Toni Collins invites you to log on to www.SupermanBobHoliday.com and see these rare filmed performances. And if you know the whereabouts of Bob's 1966 Superman appearance in an Aqua Velva TV commercial, please contact Toni through the Superman Homepage.
