December 25, 2010: Warhol's Superman Stolen

Andy Warhol Superman The New York magazine reports on the theft of a number of expensive pop art prints, including Andy Warhol's "Superman".

Sophisticated burglars broke through a hallway and removed surveillance cameras at a swanky West Village apartment last month, all so they could steal a gallery's worth of limited edition prints by Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein (plus Cartier jewelry and Rolex watches) from a vacationing art collector, police said Thursday. The loot belonged to Robert Romanoff, 49, president of Nebraska Meat Corp., and it's reportedly worth $750,000, with Warhol's "Superman" and Lichtenstein's "Thinking Nude" among the stolen goods. "Police said creepy is the right way to describe the art thieves," CBS reports. And while we never support theft of any kind, "a little cool" might be another way to describe them.
