June 17, 2013: Update on "Man of Steel" Box Office Success

Man of Steel BoxOffice.com reports that "Man of Steel" broke through the $200 Million point on its opening weekend.

Revised figures from Warner Brothers indicate that Man of Steel broke the $200 million mark over the weekend. The North American debut for the Superman reboot exceeded expectations by taking in $128.7 million, up from Sunday's $125 million estimate.

The overseas grosses also came in higher than originally reported. New figures from Warner Brothers point to a $73.3 million debut for Man of Steel outside of North America. The Superman reboot grossed $202.1 million worldwide in its opening weekend.

This is very encouraging, especially when you consider that "Man of Steel" hasn't even been released in countries like Australia and New Zealand as yet.

Additionally, Reuters reports that "Man of Steel" has broken the record for the biggest June opening ever.

"Today is a big day for us," said Warner Bros' president of theatrical distribution Dan Fellman, noting the film's record opening. He added that "Man of Steel" was now well-poised to reap big box office "in the heart of the summer play time."

The studio was also pleased by 56 percent male, 44 percent female audience, which Fellman said bodes well being a higher-female makeup that was usual for superhero-centred pictures.

"The film is playing extremely well for fan boys as well as the family," he said.
