June 17, 2015: Wall Street Journal Examines Superman's New Makeover

Superman #43 Superman's transformation into a near-powerless, T-Shirt and jeans wearing, buzz cut hair style, motorbike riding superhero with no secret identity has raised a lot of eyebrows amongst comic book readers. Now the Wall Street Journal weighs in on the subjet with an article examining the Man of Steel's makeover. Here's part of the article...

Because of his simplicity and "Boy Scout" purity, Superman stood as DC's most powerful pillar for so long, but in recent years, aided by Christopher Nolan's "Dark Knight" trilogy, Batman has become the top dog in the eyes of many fans. Yang and Romita are looking to give Superman an edge that will make him an "interplanetary Dark Knight," in Romita's words.

"You can't turn him into a badass the way the Dark Knight is. You can't do it," Romita said. "So we did it anyway. What the hell?"

"He's a badass in a different kind of way," Yang added.

Still, Superman's simplicity is at the core of his character. It makes him vulnerable, and it will make all these complications even harder for him, particularly in this era of social media, cellphone videos and information run wild. In fact, the truth about Superman's secret identity is going to come out.
