March 11, 2006: Superman Musical Returns to the Stage

The Actors Theatre Center in San Jose, California is returning the classic, "It's a bird, it's a plane, it's Superman!" broadway musical to the stage from August 11-20.

In conjunction with the new Superman Returns movie, The Man of Steel comes to life for the Broadway stage in a story filled with over the top dialogue, funny action, mayhem and, of course, comic book antics. It opens with Clark Kent changing into his Superman suit in the infamous phone booth, when a bank robbery happens. Of course, he saves the day and gets the girl, Lois Lane, but Superman is not happy. A reporter is out to uncover his identity, while another girl is trying to steal him away from Lois, and meanwhile, an evil mad scientist is trying to take over the world.

What is Superman to do? With a little help from the Citizens of Metropolis, save the WORLD...of course! Featuring a musical score filled with themes from the 1960's (from the composer of Bye, Bye, Birdie and Annie), this production will feature a lot of color, comic book exaggerated sets and costumes, with fun filled dance sequences much like those out of an Austin Powers movie featuring a 15 piece orchestra. You won't want to miss being a part of this Broadway classic! Fun for the entire family.

The musical is being performed at the Historic Hoover Theater at 1635 Park Avenue, San Jose. Tickets cost $18-20. Visit the Artsopolis website for more details.

The original musical landed on Broadway back in 1966, and starred Bob Holiday (pictured) as Superman.
