October 14, 2011: General Mills and DC Comics Bringing Comics to Cereal Boxes

Bigg Cereal Heroes The New York Times reports on a promotion between DC Comics and General Mills which will see custom editions of DC's Justice League comic books inside "specially-marked boxes" of cereals that include Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Golden Grahams, Honey Nut Cheerios, Lucky Charms and Trix.

DC is printing 12 million copies of the comic books. There are four books in the free-with-purchase cereal series, bearing titles like "Unstoppable Forces" and "Breakout!"

And in a 21st-century twist, the stories being told in each of the four comic books will be continued online on a microsite, or special Web site, BiggCerealHeroes.com.

The comic book promotion will be advertised in traditional media like radio and coupon inserts in newspapers.

The promotion will also be advertised online and through social media like the Facebook pages, Twitter feeds and blogs of DC Comics and General Mills.
