September 28, 2011: Nexen Employees Break Superman Costume Record

Nexen, a Canadian-based company who raised $1.4 million for the United Way in 2010, kicked off their "Be a Superhero" compaign this week by setting a new world record for the World's Largest Gathering of People Dressed as Superman.

Hundreds of staffers of the energy company succeeded in an attempt to break the Guinness Record for the World's Largest Gathering of People Dressed as Superman - a title previously held by an athletic club in Ireland - to kick off their "Be a Superhero" campaign for the United Way.

Sporting their bright red-and-blue threads, 437 staffers filled Century Gardens over the lunch hour Thursday to be counted, surpassing the previous record of 288.

Nexen chief executive Marvin Romanow accepted the Guinness certificate on behalf of his staff, thanking them for their enthusiasm before jokingly inquiring if anyone had spotted any oil sub-surface through their powers of x-ray vision.
