March 6, 2011: Superhero Month at Chicago Children's Museum

If you live in or around Chicago, Illinois, you may want to take your kids down to the Chicago Children's Museum this month because March is Superhero Month. Every day this month the museum offers programs and activities to inspire the imagination of children and adults to create their own superhero with special powers and abilities.

Children have an inherent desire to imagine themselves as superheroes, and the museum uses Superhero Month programming to foster their creativity and imaginative play, according to Tsivia Cohen, associate vice president of family learning at the CCM.

"Becoming superheroes is a great way for children to exercise their imaginations and better understand the world around them," Cohen said. "Children so often are not in control of their own world, and by becoming a superhero, imagining their powers and strengths gives them something they can control and overcome. If children admire a figure because he or she is strong, brave and courageous, it seems likely they will aspire to those same qualities."

$10 will get you into the museum, which is open 10.00am to 5.00pm daily. The Chicago Children's museum is at 700 E. Grand. For more information, call (312) 527-1000 or visit chicagochildrensmuseum.org.
