February 21, 2012: "Young Justice: Season 1, Volume 3" DVD Review

Young Justice - Season 1, Vol 3 Reviewed by: Steve Younis

Today, February 21, 2012 Warner Home Video releases Young Justice: Season 1, Volume 3 on DVD.

Robin, Aqualad, Kid Flash, Superboy, Miss Martian and Artemis have become YOUNG JUSTICE - The Justice League's secret weapon against the forces of evil. The teen heroes will take on under-the-radar missions that would be impossible for the Justice League to handle covertly. Red Tornado will be their supervisor; Black Canary will be in charge of their training and Batman will hand out their assignments.

This single disc release includes episodes 9-12 of the first season of the animated series: Bereft, Targets, Terrors and Home Front.

I won't review the episodes in this DVD collection, as they have been well reviewed already on this website.

Once again, this new "Young Justice" release features a mostly orange DVD cover with a dynamic image of the six team members. Miss Martian, who was missing on the cover of Volume 2, is the first member (from left to right), followed by Superboy, Aqualad, Robin, Artermis and Kid Flasg. The single disc, redish-orange in color, has the DVD title (in the reflect surface of the disc) above of a circuit board design background.

The Special Features on this disc are limited to a digital comic book of issue #0 of the "Young Justice" comic book (originally released on January 19, 2011) and two trailers, one for the "Green Lantern" animated series and another for "MAD". The disc also starts up (when you first insert it) with a trailer for "Thundercats: Book One, Volume One" and "Scooby Doo: Music of the Vampire" DVD releases.

While this DVD is light on extras, I should note that the five episodes collected here are what this is really all about, and they don't disappoint. "Young Justice" is an excellent animated series, with high production values and talented voice actors. If you collected "Young Justice: Season One, Volume One" and "Young Justice: Season One, Volume Two" on DVD, then you'll also want to pick up this third volume to continue collecting the first season episodes.

All in all this DVD is probably something that completists and die-hard "Young Justice" fans will want to buy, and will probably do well as an impulse-purchase at department stores or as an inexpensive gift.

Below are three video clips created by Warner Home Video promoting this release. The first is a commercial for the DVD, while the others are snippets from the "Targets" episode.
