August 10, 2011: Cavill, Costner and Lane at "Man of Steel" Filming

Filming in the Sugar Grove area for "Man of Steel" will shut down Route 56 from Route 47 to Galena Blvd until 8.00pm today, with security guards and Illinois state troopers keeping out any inquisitive spectators.

What scenes are being filmed in Sugar Grove also is being kept a secret.

"We have a closed set and will not be disclosing any scenes of the movie," said LeeAnne Muldoon, the movie's publicist, in an email. "We are trying very hard to protect the story. I know it is very frustrating position to be in as we are having an impact on the Sugar Grove community with the road closure and we greatly appreciate the welcome we have received from the community."

Sugar Grove Village President Sean Michels said he had heard a large jet engine was going to be brought in to create a tornado scene.

Photos of a scene using this jet engine were posted on OnLocationVacations.com, showing Henry Cavill, Kevin Costner and Diane Lane in a scene where cars are pulled up and people are running for their lives.

A video of the filming for this sequence was also posted on Facebook...

The Sun Times also reports that filming will close a portion of East Pleasant Avenue from 6.00am to 7.00pm on Monday, August 15.

Police Chief Bill King said the street will be closed, intermittently, from Main to DeKalb streets and traffic will be handled by off-duty patrolmen.
