October 3, 2011: Grant Morrison Looks at "Action Comics #2"

Action Comics #2 USA Today caught up with "Action Comics" writer Grant Morrison to examine the second issue of the recently relaunched comic book title. Here's an excerpt from the article...

The second chapter, in stores and available digitally on Wednesday, finds the Man of Steel strapped to an electric chair and being held prisoner by Gen. Sam Lane and the American military, as well as legendary Superman foil Lex Luthor. They're treating him as an alien being, Morrison says, "so he has absolutely no rights in any way and they're experimenting on him.

"Definitely, we needed to see a Superman who could be beat up a little bit and could suffer a little bit more like us, rather than the character who could juggle planets. That was a definite decision, and also to bring him to a dead standstill," he explains. "I wanted the speeding bullet that brings him to a dead stop, so that we could start the second issue with Superman in chains. He's trapped, he can't move and it's about getting him out of that situation."
