March 30, 2011: Paul Cornell Talks "Action Comics"

Action Comics #900 Writer Paul Cornell has participated in a few interviews about his run on "Action Comics", especially in light of the big 900th issue coming up. ComicBookResources.com asked him about Doomsday's involvement and what we can expect...

It's action, action, action, action. I think we've done so much in terms of character development and talking in the past ten issues that we can do our character development on the run now. It's a big battle -- a big fight with many dimensions. Some of this is emotional and intellectual as well. A lot of what I'm doing is Superman as leader and being able to say to people really immediately "We need you to do this and you to do that or otherwise something terrible will happen in the next 30 seconds. Go do it." Pete's doing some wonderful action sequences, and he's got this wonderfully iconic Superman landing shot in the first part of the story where you just go "Aw, he's good!"

Elsewhere, io9.com also spoke with Cornell and asked him about Lex Luthor and how he approaches the character.

Lex is a couple notches below being a really great hero, from being actually Tony Stark. Those two have so many similarities, but in these couple notches are all of these bad things. Lex would like to think that he protects the planet from a dangerous, insufferable superpowered alien with heat vision, who will one day become cold and terrifying.

I think that if Superman had never come along, Lex would blame his monomania and lack of success on somebody else. It's truly ironic that the title of my new collection of Lex Luthor stories is Superman: The Black Ring - that's Lex in a nutshell.
