December 1, 2010: Hans Zimmer Scoring New Superman Movie

Superman Movie News IndieWire's "Thompson on Hollywood" indicates that Hans Zimmer is indeed going to be scoring the new Superman movie, with the news apparently leaking out of Tuesday night's "Inception" DVD and Blu-ray release party.

Composer Hans Zimmer was attempting an early exit to catch a plane not surprising given that he's got no less than 11 projects on the burner his busiest year ever. "I never planned it like this - it's just that all my friends got busy at once," he declared. On Jan. 1 he starts scoring Chapter 4 in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, which shot months ago in Hawaii. He'll follow that with the Sherlock Holmes sequel, a Kung Fu Panda follow-up; then he'll work on Nolan's new Superman chapter.

You'll recall that we reported on Zimmer's comments about scoring a new Superman movie back in late October when Popcorn Biz asked him if whoever did score the new Superman movie should retain the John Williams' "Superman" theme...

"It's a hard one," mused Zimmer, "but I followed one of the most iconic things on 'Batman' with Chris as well, and it's the same thing. You are allowed to reinvent, but you have to try to be as good or at least as iconic and it has to resonate and it has to become a part of the zeitgeist. That's the job. On 'Gladiator' I remember people always talking about 'Spartacus' and I kept telling them, 'When you saw "Spartacus" and how it affected it you, that's how I want a modern audience to be affected by what we do now.' So I think ultimately you're supposed to reinvent."

We'll let you know when Zimmer's involvement is officially announced.

Thanks to Julian Adderley for the lead on this news.
