According to TheWrap.com, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav is reshaping the studio’s plans, with Superman a focal point for the studio.
Veteran studio chief Toby Emmerich was moved on earlier this week, with Zaslav clearly pulling the strings moving forward, and according to TheWrap’s DC insider, Zaslav has instructed his team to “scratch every Superman project in development and start fresh with Cavill.”
Reportedly, Zaslav wants to get a Superman movie off the ground, with Henry Cavill the focal point of any plans to create a shared universe of DC characters beyond that.
From what we knew, Ta-Nehisi Coates was writing a script for a J.J. Abrams produced Superman movie that was supposed to be all about a black Kal-El/Clark Kent, while Darnell Metayer & Josh Peters were writing a script for Michael B. Jordan’s “Val Zod” project for HBO Max. Whether both of these Superman-related projects are still happening remains to be seen.
Note: This likely wouldn’t have any impact on the “Superman & Lois” TV Series currently airing on The CW, which has already been renewed for a third season.
Is there any way for Zaslav to hear my ideas for multiple versions of Superman? Why stop at just one version when we can have three versions of Superman going on at the same time? Brandon Routh can have a Superman series on HBOmax from August to December for the next ten years, Tyler Hoechlin can continue playing Superman on the small screen from January to May for the next 8 or 9 years, and Henry Cavill can have the summer months from May to August. And then have a crossover team up trilogy. It worked wonders for Spider-Man in… Read more »
Try Twitter
I don’t do Twitter. It’s not my kind of thing.
I’m actually relying more on word of mouth to get my hashtag going around. If others want to use it with the definition that it was made for on Twitter I m cool with that.
I hope that this rumor wouldn’t have any impact on Superman and Lois. It’s one of the best Superman series ever made. They have good thing going for them with this series, so I don’t think that they would get rid of something that a lot of viewers want to see, and is currently the most successful thing going on currently for Superman right now.
Oh let this be true… and bring in Christopher Mcquarrie now that he’s done with the mission impossible movies…
Zaslov is not happy with jj abrams and sounds like he may be scrapping most of his projects. Thank goodness. Abrams and his acolytes ruin every franchise they touch.
Though a new rumor has emerged that they want Todd Phillips to run the Dc division… SMH… Even with a head honcho WB will continue to make idiotic reactionary decisions.
When did we move back into the early-2000s? I knew I hung onto my cargo pants for a good reason! Can I get my high school hair back?
But on a more serious note; it does seem like contradictory rumors are coming out frequently, and until I see some serious pre-production work on any of these rumored projects, I’ll just say “pass the salt, I need a few grains…”
I would love for this to be true. But I’m not getting my hopes up until there’s an official announcement.
Happy Dance!!!!!! Haven’t posted in years. Super Lurker. I do so hope this is true!!!!
How reliable is The Wrap?
I’m not a Cavill guy myself. For me Tyler Hoechlin has been the best live action Superman we’ve had since Reeve. Having said that, I’ll take Cavill back for the film side of things if it means scrapping whatever Abrams and Coates had planned.
While I’m not a Cavill Superman fan, I am a Superman fan and I am open to comprise. I’m a huge fan of Brandon Routh’s Superman and a big fan of Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman. That’s why I’m pushing for this multiple versions of Superman movement for Superman in every media with the hashtag, #SupermanInTheMultiverse! So that we can see Routh, Cavill, Hoechlin as their versions of Superman going on at the same time. A version of Superman for everyone to enjoy. The more the merrier! And even a crossover movie trilogy of the three them as Superman. So I hope… Read more »
Oops! I meant to say that “I’m open to compromise” not “comprise”.
Typo
I hope this is true. However, I don’t want WB to get rid of “Superman and Lois.” As long as that great TV show remains untouched, then by all means bring back Henry Cavill.
There is no reason the two can’t exist at the same time. There are multiple Bat and Flash related content out there. 2 Supermen shouldn’t be any different. And if they say it is an issue, then it’s a lie.
Exactly sundevil82! That’s exactly what I’ve been saying. 🙂 I’ve been saying that there’s enough room for more than one version of Superman for everyone in every media. Why stop at just one Superman when we can have three or more? It was done for Spider-Man in Spider-Man: No way home, and it’s being done for Batman in the Flash film so it’s been rumored. There’s no good reason why it can’t be done for the world’s greatest superhero Superman. There’s certainly enough room for not just Hoechlin’s and Cavill’s Superman, but also Routh’s Superman as well. Routh can have… Read more »
This is the true Multiverse formula.
“Time”.
So much “time” there has to be a reason.
Somewhere there has to be a Superman story that reflects what is apparently going on between these sets of movies.
From the very start it’s about “time”.
And it’s time, time, time that you love.
Oh it’s time, time, time.
Oh, it’s time, time, time.
And it’s time, time, time that you love.
Time, time, time…
And it’s time, time, time.
There has to be a Superman movie or series out there that might be explaining this even right now…
You just have to look for it.
Lois is the key.
It’s all about “time”.
So I believe Superman & Lois is a VERY important show right now.
If the rumors hold true then there can be multiple Supermen.
Stop me if you’ve heard this one… worlds will live, worlds will die… but imagine if your every fear, each bad decision, gave birth to a malformed world of nightmare. A world that shouldn’t exist. And desperate as it fights to survive in the light of the true multiverse far above… these worlds are doomed to rot apart, and die, because they are wrong at their core. Welcome to the Dark Multiverse. Home to stories that should never be… It’s all one big cosmic joke, except no one on this side is laughing.
…well, almost no one…
…worlds will live, worlds will die…
Are we talking about time travel like in back to the future part two? Where a change in the timeline can cause an alternate present or future? Now I’m thinking about Doc Brown’s Time travel theories. I wonder if the flash movie will have a similar explanation on time travel?
Wait! Is this a Farscape reference? I think I saw that one. Was it the series finale?
“Time is Infinite, relative.
Time is meaningless and yet it is all that exists.”
That’s the quote from Farscape am I right?
So then if time is infinite, then there’s infinite possibilities for a Multiverse. An “Infinite Multiverse”.
See what I did there.? 🙂
#SupermanInTheMultivese!
I just had to say it.
Agreed. Superman IS the Multiverse.
Also, all the movies have to be started at the exact same time.
It even becomes a comedy.
Every picture you see is from a synced up timestamp on both sets of movies.
The first picture shows you.
I am referencing the song Snyder used to explain the motherbox origins.
Time by Tom Waits.
I actually am a fan of Tom Waits. Tom Traubert’s Blues, Jersey Girl, and Down Town Train are a few of his best songs in my opinion.
All of Snyder’s movie perfectly sync with Reeve’s and Routh’s.
Directions:
Superman: The Movie on top of screen. Volume off. Subtitles on.
Man of Steel on the bottom of the screen. Volume on. Subtitles on.
The stories literally reflect each other. Not every moment is the same obviously. Which is why subtitles help.
You are seeing an effect similar to this on Superman & Lois.
The just prevented a unity with a planet shaped like a box.
Fans say Cavill’s Superman broke a major rule with killing Zod.
Reeve’s Superman has him doing something like that as well.
We’re talking about taking the perfection and flaws of one Superman and merging it with another to create another version of a Superman who can be played by the same actor and not have to be done by one director.
I think the Flash movie is about Superman.
As well as all movies being their own universe which we already knew from the TV Crisis.
I think a much bigger Crisis is coming. And will need the right Superman for the fight.
“My son is twice the man you were, Zod. And he will finish what we started. I can promise you that.”
I am actually going for Superman being in the multiverse. I see no reason why we can’t have more than one actor playing the role at the same time. There is also the unspoken debate on “who is the best Superman?” And I believe that with this Multiverse/crossover idea of having Cavill, Routh, and Hoechlin as their versions of Superman meeting and teaming up, then that debate could at the very least quiet down a bit. Seeing how they would work together instead of fighting each other, would show how each version is valued. And why deprive one Superman fan… Read more »
Just like the comics!
But when it comes to Live-action, the literal thing that prevents things like this is…?
Time. It’s always about timing. And also money.
Superman is a top tier character. Should Tyler be paid as much as Cavill for being in the same project?
I think that depends on screen time. But I’m not an actor so I don’t know how much one actor gets paid compared to another. And are we talking lead actor compared to supporting actor? Because I would think that a lead actor would get paid more. But I’m thinking that if all actors have the same amount of screen time, then I would imagine that they all get paid the same amount. But again I’m not an actor so I wouldn’t know about their pay rate.
Do we know how much all three Spider-Man actors were paid for Spider-Man: No way home? Maybe that might give a clue to how they might pay the actors. But then again DC isn’t Marvel and vice versa. So I don’t know how one company would pay compared to another in regards to crossovers.
How much did Cavill get paid compared to the rest of the actors who were in the JL? I know that his screen time was significantly less than his costars. I heard that Marlon Brando was paid the most for his short time on screen for Superman the movie compared to Christopher Reeve and all the other actors. But that’s what I’ve heard so i’m not saying that as a fact.
I assume this just means “live-action movie projects”; I can’t imagine they’d scrap S&L or the Tomorrowverse or whatever.
This would be really cool, and I hope we get a real announcement soon!
I hope this rumor is true. It would be cool if they expand to the members of the super-family, like Supergirl.
Michael Bay (Armageddon) Bright red cape, red trunks, yellow belt, something like: Godzilla, King Kong, Megatron, Ultron! Add: Patriotism, mom’s Apple pie, fix father’s death scene (Bring him back?), American Way!
I think Superman needs a new series of movies (definitely starring Henry Cavill and Amy Adams) that vastly simplifies storytelling style and which get right away from all the extended universe crossover stuff. I also think that Superman movies need to get back to the tone of something along the lines of ‘Superman Returns.’. Incidentally I do really enjoy ‘Man Of Steel.’. Right up to the point where thematically engaging storytelling falls completely by the wayside and a mind-bogglingly intense and far too long CGI battle takes over. At which point I get bored and switch off. But the real… Read more »
Henry Cavill for me is a good Superman / Clark Kent in The DCEU he sadly was just hurt by odd creative decisions by Warner Bros. and bad writing with his Superman. Would not let him be the character and we have not seen enough of him as Clark Kent. We need to see more of him as Clark and more scenes of him on the Kent Farm in Smallville also his Superman needs to be more fleshed out and be that beacon of Hope the world needs him to be in future Superman films. While I love Christopher Reeve… Read more »

Well, as long as Superman & Lois is still intact… That show is amazing.
I agree. That show really is amazing . I think that there’s room for more than one version of Superman. The more versions of Superman, the merrier!
