January 9, 2018: Official "Krypton" Trailer and Synopsis

Syfy has released the official synopsis and first trailer for the "Krypton" TV series.

What if Superman never existed? Set two generations before the destruction of Superman's home planet, Krypton follows Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe), the legendary Man of Steel's grandfather, who is faced with a life and death conflict - save his home planet or let it be destroyed in order to restore the fate of his future grandson. With Krypton's leadership in disarray and the House of El ostracized, Seg finds himself in a difficult position. He must redeem his family's honor and protect the ones he loves while being challenged by familiar DC characters Brainiac (Blake Ritson) and Earthly time-traveler Adam Strange (Shaun Sipos).

Appearing at the Television Critics Association winter press tour today, David S. Goyer, Geoff Johns and Cameron Cuffe spoke about working on the TV series...

"This is an untold story and history can be changed in our show. The end can be very different from what we all know," said David Goyer on the fate of Krypton throughout the series.

"Once Superman enters your life, he's always there. That's why I'm so excited to be part of the mythology," explained Cameron Cuffe on joining the El family.

Geoff Johns added, "There's a lot to explore. We get to do our own version of Doomsday that's never been done. And in a lot of ways its even closer to the comics because of that."

"You get to do things in a serialized story that you can't do in movies. We get to tell a more sophisticated and emotionally compelling story. We get to explore every corner of the mythology. We're pulling things in the comics from the 50s and things that were written 5 months ago. We explore where the 'S' symbol gets its meaning. We get to see it grow into what we all know and love and that's what makes our story special."

The TV series is inspired by classic comic book stories including "All-Star Superman," "Superman: The Animated Series," and :Superman: Secret Origins".

"Krypton" is produced by Warner Horizon Television. The pilot is written by David Goyer (Man of Steel) with Ian Goldberg (Once Upon A Time, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles). Goyer also acts as executive produce through his company Phantom Four with Damian Kindler (Sleepy Hollow), who serves as showrunner. Colm McCarthy (Peaky Blinders) directed the pilot.

The cast includes: Cameron Cuffe (The Halcyon) as Seg-El, Georgina Campbell (After Hours) as Lyta Zod, Ian McElhinney (Game of Thrones) as Val-El, Elliot Cowan (Da Vinci's Demons) as Daron Vex, Ann Ogbomo (Wonder Woman) as Primus Alura Zod, Rasmus Hardiker (Your Highness) as Kem, Wallis Day (The Royals) as Nyssa Vex and Aaron Pierre (Britannia) as Dev-Em.
