July 9, 2008: Jon Sibal Talks Inking Superman

The Pulse caught up with artist Jon Sibal to talk to him about his job inking Gary Frank's pencils in "Action Comics". Here's an excerpt from the interview...

Q: I'd have to guess Superman is a favorite of yours, judging by how meticulous your inks are in Action Comics. But what were some of the other draws for you to ink his adventures?

SIBAL: Superman to me is the epitome of a super hero. When you have Superman as your lead character in the story a lot of other cool characters seem to be involved in his adventures so that's an added bonus for me. It was cool inking the Legion of Super-Heroes in the last story arc and now the Brainiac story arc is proving to be an even more detailed and challenging work. It's certainly something I wouldn't trade for anything.

Q: What's it like working with Gary Frank? How well are your styles meshing? Does he give you a lot of room to interpret things as you see or are his pencils pretty tight?

SIBAL: Gary Frank is probably one of the coolest guys I've ever worked with, which probably explains why he has been the penciller I've inked the longest. I'm a fan of his work, and I get excited every time I get a batch of new pages from him. His lines and styles work great with the way I ink. I don't have to alter much on the way I move my wrist or hold the pen when I ink him, it just flows and I'm happy that it works out like that. His pencils are tight, clearly well drawn and, at the same time, he does give me some room to add my own embellishments; which makes it for a comfortable experience every time.
