Zack Snyder Planned a Lois Lane/Bruce Wayne Romance

Bruce & Lois

In an interview with Vanity Fair, director Zack Snyder revealed that he had originally planned for Bruce Wayne to fall in love with Lois Lane in “Justice League”.

With Superman having died at the end of “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” Snyder had toyed with the idea… but Warner Bros. nixed the idea.

“The intention was that Bruce fell in love with Lois and then realized that the only way to save the world was to bring Superman back to life,” Snyder said. “So he had this insane conflict, because Lois, of course, was still in love with Superman. We had this beautiful speech where [Bruce] said to Alfred: ‘I never had a life outside the cave. I never imagined a world for me beyond this. But this woman makes me think that if I can get this group of gods together, then my job is done. I can quit. I can stop.’ And of course, that doesn’t work out for him.”

Snyder also revealed that hard-core fans will have their minds blown with the inclusion of a cameo which will take place in an entirely new ending the director shot for this new version of the film.

Bit of pointless, Batman already has conflict in the story as is, but I’ve heard more terrible things.

I’d recommend you all read the full interview. The bit about Batman and the surprise cameo are footnotes. The full thing is Zack’s side of the production story back in 2017, some clearing things up, he talks a little about his daughter, it’s a pretty wholesome read.

I read that article today and it was quite revealing regarding the entire fiasco that surrounded the JL movie. The re-do by JossW was not regarded as anything you’d call positive by the heads at the WB. A lot of other info as well.

One item I DID NOT LIKE reading regarding Snyder’s JL. Apparently the HBOMAX release, will be be shown as 4.3 format and not wide screen. Meaning there will be black bars on the left and right hand side of the TV screen. Still no mention of Blu-Ray release date.

As much as I like Zack Snyder and his work, there is ONE THING I don’t like about him, which is that he seems to not respect Superman’s supporting characters. For example, in BVS Jimmy Olsen is part of the CIA and then he’s killed. And now we’re seeing that he wants Bruce Wayne to be nailing Lois Lane. All of this while Superman was defeated by Batman and killed by Doomsday in BVS. Thank goodness that WB had the sense to say, “No, you can’t have Bruce Wayne date Lois Lane.”

Batman wouldn’t have earned this romance, so I don’t think it was the right idea in this case either; but I don’t think Snyder lacks respect for Superman’s supporting cast so much as he likes his stories and he likes using names that are recognizable (either to the audience or to him). I mean, for every Jimmy shot in the face, there is a Dick Grayson that was killed by the Joker and never got to be Nightwing. It’s a very ’00s idea that we’ve left behind (for better or worse) since the MCU became the norm. It’s like that… Read more »

He was definitely maybe taking a page out of the superman batman animated movie of the Timmverse. Bruce was hitting on Lois until she found out he was batman. She was kinda attracted to him at some point of the movie. Well…contrary to the life outside the Cave, he is definitely wrong on this. I mean he cruises town by night in a fancy, stylish and batlike vehicle. Chases harley or catwoman onto roofs and engages In flirtations action with them most of the time. And also accompanies his JLA buddies and travel the world to different locations. Even to… Read more »

I don’t hate that idea, actually. It would certainly have raised the emotional stakes for Bruce’s character – to save the world, he has to give up his personal happiness. (Also, there is some precedent in the comics and Bruce Timm cartoons for Bruce Wayne being a sort-of rival for Lois’ affections.) I think one of the things that I’ve realized over the course of time that makes me more open to some of the wilder ideas Snyder toyed with is this: he wasn’t trying to create a comic-book status quo that would set the stage for an endless series… Read more »

Kind of reminds of what the fans of the Twilight series would call team Edward or team Jacob. So team Clark? Or team Bruce? Who will Lois choose?

In my opinion, it’s crazy that Bruce Wayne is a allowed by writers and fans to be both a playboy and a guy who “falls in love with” multiple women. Aside from his playboy flings, he has Selina Kyle, Talia al Ghul, Vickie Vale, Rachel Dawes, Wonder Woman, even Zatanna and a number of others. One would think that it would be common sense for Zack Snyder to at least CONSIDER this thought: “Yeah, Bruce Wayne has lots of other women. Lois Lane should be off limits to him.” As I said before, I love Snyder’s work. But I do… Read more »
