Having joined Zack Snyder during the online “Man of Steel” Watch Party earlier this week, there’s a lot of speculation surrounding whether Henry Cavill is set to return as Superman in an upcoming Warner Bros. film.
Deadline.com are reporting that Henry is in talks with Warner Bros. to return to the role of the Man of Steel, but not in his own film. There’s talk that Henry could appear in a supporting role or a cameo in one of the upcoming superhero films, possibly The Flash.
No standalone Superman film is in the works at Warner Bros., with their priorities currently focused on getting “The Batman” and “Wonder Woman 1984” back on track after the stoppages caused by COVID-19. Other films currently in various stages of production or pre-production include “Shazam! 2,” “Aquaman 2,” and the long-awaited “Black Adam”.
Whether we will ever see Henry Cavill back as Superman remains to be seen, but the rumors surrounding his return seem to be gaining traction.
I certainly hope so, he deserves a chance to really give this role his best. He has such charisma and he really embodies the character if given a proper chance. We got a glimpse in JL.
Yeah, he really got ripped off with the man of steel “sequel” they skipped over all the stuff I wanted to see. you know, the whole getting to be superman in metropolis thing. Learning to what it is to “be” superman. Totally skipped
@JasEl – I completely agree. Henry deserves a chance to really show audiences his best as Superman/Clark Kent. Even though I enjoy Snyder’s take on Superman (and as an avid supporter of Snyder’s work), I think Snyder inadvertently limited Henry Cavill’s potential to show audiences an in depth Superman. If Cavill gets the opportunity to return as Superman, I’d love to see a different director and script writer give Henry the opportunity to show more depth as Superman/Clark Kent.
I agree about Henry needing to be given a chance. I’d still love to see Chris McQuarrie dis sequel but I think that ship has sailed.
It would be nice but I doubt it. The only way they would is if DC thinks they can make that money.

I was excited when I first saw the news until I realized it was just discussions to co-star. I’m honestly tired of Superman having to play second to other heroes or him being used to prop another hero up.
It’s obviously going to be black Adam as him and the rock have the same manager.
I can’t say. I don’t know much about how contracts work or when or if they expire. If I had to guess, I would assume that if there is a contract that’s currently in negotiations, it would be a hush hush kinda deal to prevent any leaks of information. I could be wrong though. But like I said, I don’t know much on how contract negotiations work. Time will tell I guess.
Exactly. He’ll be made to look weaker, inferior, etc etc for the “main” actor of the film. WB/DC/AT&T still don’t get it and I fail to see why anyone thinks otherwise. They are inept/incompetant when it comes to Superman until proven otherwise.
Quite frankly, I don’t care that much about Cavill’s interpretation (I think he’s a mediocre actor with just a bulky phisique).
What I really hope to see soon is a new Superman movie with new actors, new director and generally a new take, or better getting back to a more canonic take.
I’d love to see a good director, an author, just wanting to tell a good Superman story.
Until that time, I won’t care about anything WB is working on. With or without Cavill.
I’m not fan of Cavill, either. Like you I thought he was mediocre at best in the role and even downright bad in a few scenes. It’s unfortunate because he has the looks and seems like a pretty good dude who is the kinda guy you’d want in the role, but add the acting on top of the questionable creative decisions made in his movies and I just have no desire to see him return. Sources have been a lot more adamant about his return lately, so it’s probably happening. Unfortunately, the same sources either report it won’t be in a solo movie, or that they don’t know if it’ll be in a solo movie. Which means I’m happy for Henry, but I’m a lot less happy for me. Don’t forget; considering Henry’s appeal and popularity as an actor and as Superman, if WB doesn’t want him for his own movie then it most likely means they don’t have any Superman-centric projects in the pipeline. I would bet your right. But I don’t think he should guest star in any movie. They guest star in HIS movie! The second fiddle nonsense shouldn’t be on the table or considered,….UNLESS it was going to directly lead into his own solo adventure.
But in reality with how the pandemic has affected the entire industry and until the theraters open back up, they need to devise some profitable way of streaming, How are they going to affored to make these? I don’t see billion dollar intake(s) from streaming.
You know I’m both excited and sad. Excited at seeing Henry Don that beautiful MOS outfit. Sad because he want have his own movie. DC has a holy trinity of heroes. That holy trinity consist of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. You don’t mess with the trinity. You don’t use a trinity character on another character’s show as a jobber. I think though I know why Henry Cavill may not be getting a Man of steel 2 movie. The Hollywood rumor mill is that he is hard to work with. Grace Rudolph who has a YouTube channel called beyond the trailer stated he may be hard to work with. She has worked in Hollywood and knows the inside tract. She also has been on point about things.
