I actually don’t like this at all… nothing against the actors or even the characters for that matter, but is it too much to ask for a superman movie to solely focus on Superman?? We already are going to get the authority in here too, I am genuinely worried… once again. And this was also my biggest fear with h gunn taking over, was that he was just going to cast his friends and have it be GOTG/Peacemaker vibes all over again. I was really hoping he was going to go against his tendencies for this one, but I guess… Read more »

They just never seem to learn. smh Gunn did say the right things in response to a question about this but the proof will be in the pudding. All that said, I think they’re are many factors working against this movie and Universe regardless of it’s quality. It might be too late already.

My interest in this movie is already pretty low considering it’s being used as a springboard for the new DCU which I just couldn’t care less about. This certainly doesn’t help. My hope was at least for this first film the extended universe stuff would be minimal. It still could be as who knows how big these roles are going to be when all is said and done, but either way, I really don’t see it as a positive with these characters popping up at all. Add to the fact they’re really probably going to be pushing The Authority to… Read more »

Oh wow, here we go again. Did they learn nothing from BvS introducing too many characters at one time? Even if they’re only bit parts, it’s still having all these other heroes in a NEW Superman movie that should be about and feature HIM. The actors are cool, it’s nothing against them, and of course we don’t know what the script is like, but this is definitely not looking good and I’m losing interest already.

I think the elephant in the room here, that no one has mentioned yet for some reason, is that Legacy could be a one and done offering of Superman. Has anyone read anything about Any long range plans for the character? Introducing all these other players might not just be a set up for the DCU, it might be a set up for the DCU without Superman. There’s been a long standing bemoaning of writers/filmmakers not “getting” the character and I just wonder if the new iteration of that is, to show Superman is vulnerable/relatable, we have to shove the… Read more »

I think James Gunn is taking a one step at a time approach. He has his “Phase 1” mapped out for the next few years. I think part of his approach is to plant seeds that can be developed in later “phases” but he doesn’t have any concrete plans. I’m sure he has ideas but the next 3 or 4 years of DC content have been mapped out and he probably won’t start seriously planning “Phase 2” until he sees how some of his “Phase 1” projects are received. Since this new Superman movie isn’t an origin story I don’t… Read more »

I think for that type of ending to work and makes sense it will have to be smaller scale. (which I’d be fine with) Part of the issue withe lots of Superheroes inhabiting the same world/county/city is that if there is a big enough threat, they should all show up. With a character like Superman, it’s easy to make the threat big, (or for writers/execs to feel the need to go big) so why wouldn’t other superheroes come to help (in some way at the very least)? It wouldn’t make sense on multiple levels if they didn’t. Could only work… Read more »

It’s not always a question of scale. Sometimes it’s a matter of how much time the heroes have to react to whatever the villain’s plan is. Often the heroes don’t even know what the villain’s plan is until it’s almost too late. For example a villain plants a bomb to blow up Metropolis and Superman only has a minute to find it and stop it from destroying Metropolis. Most of the story could be about the villain stealing the parts for the bomb and Superman and his supporting cast investigating what the villain is up to. During the investigation phase… Read more »
