September 4, 2014: Update on Possible Supergirl TV Series

Supergirl Yesterday we reported on the news that DC Entertainment are actively pitching a live-action Supergirl TV series, with BleedingCool.com claiming that comic book writer and TV producer Michael Green being involved. Now, Deadline.com weigh in on the story claiming that Green is not involved, but that "The Flash" TV series executive producer Greg Berlanti has teamed with script writer Ali Adler for a TV series about Kara Zor-El.

Adler will write the script and will executive produce with Berlanti Prods.' Berlanti and Sarah Schechter. DC's Geoff Johns, who has been involved in both Arrow and The Flash, is also expected to be part of the project but it is unclear at this time what his role will be. The Supergirl show doesn't have a name yet. I hear the producers are considering several options that need to be cleared, including Super and Girl. The project is expected to be taken out in a couple of weeks and pitched to the major networks the way WBTV and DC did with their high profile Batman prequel Gotham, which landed at Fox with a big commitment. The Supergirl series had been in the works at WBTV for some time with Berlanti and Adler. Contrary to a report that was picked up by a number of outlets, Michael Green has had no involvement in the project.

While the rumored "Super" and "Girl" titles don't seem very imaginative, the prospect of a live-action Supergirl TV series sounds very exciting.

UPDATE: According to E! Online, the pitch was turned down by The CW (on which both "Arrow" and "The Flash" air), so the concept is being shopped around to other networks by Warner Bros. studio and DC Comics.
