I’ve only seen the film 2.5 times, but I mostly like the JXL score… I’m still getting used to the needle drops and his remix of all the Superman themes are evocative. My two sore points are: 1) the lack of full-throated orchestration … and 2) the JL theme is overused and, just not my taste. The first can’t be helped due to the pandemic, JXL relied heavily on synthesized instruments and could only orchestrate to a given degree (short of time, money, iteration, people, and density). The latter is also partially a time issue (JXL had already cannibalized much… Read more »

I’ve just finished watching the movie. I give it a C+ or a B-. Which for me is better than the previous two films. I give BvS an F and MoS a D. Again that’s just my opinion and grade, so others my feel differently. As a story, I liked it. I was able to follow and understand it better than the previous two. So I liked it, but I didn’t love it. I do feel that there were some things I didn’t like or understand, but I’ll save all of those thoughts when it’s alright to start talking spoilers.… Read more »

I do not care for Junkie xl’s work as I find him to be a bit of a hack and does very generic work. That being said, this is light years better than elfmans score, but no where near as good as the Hans zimmer stuff. I was taken out of moments when you hear a random electric guitar where it had no business being. Oh well… Movie is much, much better now I will say. Credit where credit is due. I really enjoyed the apokolips stuff. This was the first time I watched a Snyder DC film and finally… Read more »

I just finished watching the movie and I’ll probably have to give it another watch to notice the more minute details, but in general, I’m with DrAwkward. The JL theme ends up being intrusive and it’s just not that memorable and the lack of proper orchestration is pretty obvious when put against the other two movies before this (three, if you count Wonder Woman). Having said that, funny thing; whenever the Superman theme popped up, it sounded so out of place, I ended up liking it for being out of place. This should be a criticism, but whenever JLX’s soundtrack… Read more »
