Talking to Variety, co-CEO of DC Studios James Gunn explained that while they have “some really great choices” in mind when it comes to casting the lead role in the upcoming “Superman: Legacy” film, he does have an ideal in mind for how he wants the character portrayed.
As the writer and director of the movie, Gunn explained, “The next Superman has to be someone who has all the humanity that Superman has but he’s also an alien. It’s gotta be somebody who has the kindness and the compassion that Superman has and be somebody who you want to give a hug.”

“Superman: Legacy,” which will be written and directed by James Gunn, is scheduled to be released July 11, 2025.
I hope there’s not too much emphasis on the ‘alien’ aspect. We got enough of that in Snyder’s movies… and if Gunn really wants to be different, how about we keep ma and pa Kent alive this time! I miss they’re guidance in live action.
