According to Deadline.com, filmmaker Craig Gillespie, best known for films such as “Cruella” and “I, Tonya,” is in talks with Warner Bros’ DC Studios to direct the upcoming film “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow”.

With James Gunn currently in production on 2025’s “Superman” movie, the report claims that the Supergirl movie would look to start filming in the fourth quarter of 2024.

Milly Alcock, who has already been cast in the lead role, will reportedly first appear in 2025’s “Superman” before starring in “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow”.

The script for “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” is written by Ana Nogueira, which is inspired by the Tom King run of comics of the same name. Back in January 2023, James Gunn said in a video announcement, “Superman is a guy sent to Earth and raised by loving parents, where Supergirl in this story, she is a character raised on a chunk of Krypton. She watched everybody around her perish in some terrible way, so she’s a much more jaded character.”

While no release date for “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” has been announced as yet, “Superman” is scheduled to be released on July 11, 2025.
