Milly Alcock and Meg Donnelly Screen Test for Supergirl Movie

Supergirl - Milly Alcock or Meg Donnelly?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the hunt for the big screen’s next Supergirl is a step closer, with Milly Alcock and Meg Donnelly both having screen tested yesterday.

According to inside sources, the two actors, both vying for the role of Kara Zor-El (aka Supergirl) in DC Studio’s new movie universe, met with co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran in Atlanta, Georgia.

By all accounts, whoever wins the role of Supergirl will first appear in “Superman: Legacy” before starring in the upcoming film “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow”.

Milly Alcock is best known for playing Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen on HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” while Meg Donnelly starred in The CW’s “The Winchesters” as Mary Campbell, who’s father was played by former “Smallville” star, Tom Welling. Meg Donnelly also voices the role of Supergirl in the recent DC animated movies “Legion of Super-Heroes” and “Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part One”.

The script for “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” is written by Ana Nogueira, which is inspired by the Tom King run of comics of the same name. Back in January 2023, James Gunn said in a video announcement, “Superman is a guy sent to Earth and raised by loving parents, where Supergirl in this story, she is a character raised on a chunk of Krypton. She watched everybody around her perish in some terrible way, so she’s a much more jaded character.”

In a later post on Instagram, Gunn wrote, “A hearty public welcome to Ana Nogueira to the DC Studios family. Ana is an amazing writer whose screenplay adaptation of Woman of Tomorrow is above and beyond anything I hoped it would be. We’re excited to be moving forward on this unique take on Supergirl in this beautiful, star-spanning tale.”

While no release date for “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” has been announced as yet, we will see Supergirl in “Superman: Legacy” when it is released on July 11, 2025.
