January 9, 2013: History of the Superman Logo

S Shield TheGeekTwins.com has created an infographic showcasing all the major iterations of the Superman "S" Shield since 1938.

In fact, the Superman logo has changed dozens of times over the last 70-plus years since Action Comics #1. Some are so outlandish they're unrecognizable as Superman. Other logos are like the one we know, but slightly different.

From it's humble beginnings to it's wildest transformations, here is the history of Superman's logo in one handy infographic. It doesn't have every logo, but it has all the most important ones.

It's a great infographic, which does a great job of showing how the Superman "S" Shield has changed over the years, however there are some inaccuracies. For example, the logo for the 1950s "Adventures of Superman" TV series doesn't actually look like that at all, and the logo for "Superman Returns" really should have the 3D bevelled appearance to be accurate.

It's also interesting that the actual trademarked Superman "S" Shield, the one that's plastered all over T-shirts, magnets, lunch boxes, clocks, keyrings and all manner of different merchandise available, is not represented in this infographic at all.

A similar infographic was created in 2006 when "Superman Returns" came out, showing the evolution of the Superman "S" Shield over the years.
