April 2, 2004: “Superman: The Movie” Costume For Sale!
You may have heard that a Superman costume from "Superman IV: The Quest For Peace" recently sold at auction for US$33,000.00. According to the description placed by seller "Profiles in History", the 1987 four-piece costume consisted of a long-sleeve leotard of blue and red stretch jersey, with chest emblazoned with the trademark Superman "S" in yellow and red; red briefs with belt loops (belt not present) and a Bermans & Nathans label typed "Christopher Reeve 4913 Walking Superman IV"; a pair of blue stretch nylon pants with matching label; cape of scarlet wool with padded shoulders, the back having another Superman "S" logo with similar label, and a pair of red knee-length leather boots with zipper closures, inscribed in black felt pen "C4".
The Superman Homepage, in association with the Super Museum in Metropolis Illinois will go one better!!!
Jim Hambrick, owner of the Super Museum has a complete Superman costume, WITH labels from the FIRST Superman Movie - "Superman: The Movie" (1978). Jim is willing to sell this piece of movie history for the same price as what the "Superman IV" costume just sold for... US$33,000.00.
