January 20, 2004: Superman Confirmed to Shoot in Sydney Australia?
Superman-V.com have posted a report stating that they've received confirmation from the Australian Film Commission that the up-coming Superman movie is booked in to start filming in Fox Studios in Sydney Australia from May 2004. Here's what Superman-V.com claim the Australian Film Commission told them and a few other bits and pieces they've discovered for themselves:
- "We're aware that Superman is booked in to shoot at Fox, but currently there's no director or leader actor attached, so there are no real details we can supply."
Now for a bit more on the production, which is still being referred to as"Fly-By" at WB. Mark Mansbridge is Art Director, he's got a pretty impressive CV, including Matrix 2 and 3, and Master and Commander. He's been on the movie for some time now.
No start date has been set but they are looking to begin pre-production in 3 months. The majority of shooting will be done in Sydney (doubling for Metropolis). Expect work to be done in the U.S. as well, we've already seen location shots for a possible Smallville shoot in Washington. Fenway Park may also host a scene from the film.
Note: Living in Sydney Australia myself, I made a few phone calls. My contacts at both the Australian New South Wales Film and Television Office and the Australian Film Commission could not confirm that Superman had booked into Sydney's Fox Studios as yet, that it is still in a "holding pattern" regarding a firm booking. They'll contact me directly when they know for sure.
