December 3, 2003: Alex Ross Book Signings
Fan favorite artist, Alex Ross will be participating in a couple of In-Store Signings during December. Two that we know of are:Alex will be at Rupp's Comics on December 6th to help them celebrate their 12th anniversary.
Located at 1612 W. State St., Fremont, Ohio, Rupp's Comics will host Alex Ross from 2pm on Saturday December 6th. Alex will be available to autograph your collectibles (be they comics, books, posters, etc...) at no charge. Rupp's are also giving away free posters, bookmarks, comics and more.
Alex Ross will also be promoting the release of his new book "Mythology: The DC Art of Alex Ross".
Alex will be appearing with "Mythology" writer and designer Chip Kidd a week later on Saturday December 13th at the Chicago Comics store, located at 3244 N. Clark.
Scheduled to be in store from 3pm till 6pm, Alex and Chip will be on site for a joint signing for the release of both "Mythology" and "JLA: Liberty & Justice".
Meanwhile, the Washington Post recently published an article all about Alex Ross, his book and his career. Here's an excerpt from the article...
- His unorthodox work depicts the superheroes as more fully alive, and in so doing he has ascended to the upper echelon of a fickle medium that worships its icons mainly in 2-D.
Now, 14 years into his career ("Too early, when you think about it," he says), he is the subject of a mass-market coffee-table tribute from Pantheon Books, "Mythology: The DC Comics Art of Alex Ross," assembled by graphic design guru Chip Kidd and photographer Geoff Spear.
The book is both a tribute and exploration of the Alex Ross aesthetic. Critics who thought there was nothing left to mine in the dubious pop-academic exploration of comics are taking another look at Ross's superheroes.
