Zack Snyder Has Lost Interest in Superhero Films… But Would Return for One Project

Zack Snyder

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter to promote his new Netflix film “Rebel Moon,” director Zack Snyder touches on his time working on “Man of Steel,” “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and “Zack Snyder’s Justice League,” but admits that he’s lost the passion for the superhero genre.

“It was amazing to come up with a new Superman, and to bring Wonder Woman to the big screen for the first time. There are so many amazing moments. Then, at the end, there were so many heartbreaking moments.”

He continues, “We’ve been on the treadmill – it has not evolved. I don’t have the excitement for it that I used to have.”

However, while Warner Bros. is moving in a new direction with James Gunn at the helm, Snyder admits he would return for one particular project.

Gunn and Snyder are friends, and if he was asked, Snyder might consider doing a “Dark Knight Returns” adaptation (but only “a true representation of the graphic novel”).

“Rebel Moon” arrives on Netflix on December 22, 2023.

I don’t know about this. Batman v Superman I feel already covered some parts of The Dark Knight Returns story. Not to mention we already saw Zack make a version of the fight between the two heroes that was heavily influenced from The Dark Knight Returns story. So Zack would want to do that whole fight scene again?

That is exactly what I thought when I read this! Also, I never liked TDKR. I suppose that’s not that uncommon for Superman fans, but I actually never cared for any other works from Miller either. Gritty and dark for the sake of being gritty and dark. It’s just not my thing. When I read this, all I thought was “so, Zack Snyder wants to make a ‘Zack Snyder’s TDKR’ out of BvS just like he did with ‘Zack Snyder’s JL’ with JL? How many times can a person take half of a movie and piece it back together to… Read more »

Regarding TDKR. That movie after having seen it once, then again, it becomes apparent that it is a total fest of nonsense from front to back. There are so many plot problems, watching it again becomes a mental lesson in endurance to get through it.

A bit disappointing as I was hoping his “interest” would have been a MoS sequel.
