Nicholas Hoult Cast as Lex Luthor for “Superman: Legacy”

Actor Nicholas Hoult has reportedly been cast to play Lex Luthor in the upcoming film “Superman: Legacy”.

According to Deadline.com, a number of sources indicated to them that Warner Bros. were waiting for the writers and actors strikes to be finalized before making the announcement.

Hoult, we has worked on a number of Warner Bros. films including “Mad Max Fury Road” and Clint Eastwood’s upcoming film “Juror No. 2,” was rumored months ago to be in the running to play Superman, with many sources indicating that if he didn’t land the lead role he would be considered for the part of Lex Luthor. With David Corenswet being chosen to play Superman/Clark Kent, it appears as though those rumors may have been on the money.

While no official announcement has been made yet, all reports point towards James Gunn making the announcement sooner rather than later.

Directed by James Gunn, “Superman: Legacy” will star David Corenswet as Superman/Clark Kent and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and is scheduled to be released July 11, 2025.

He actually looks younger than Jesse Eisenberg, but I don’t mind that as long as he delivers a good performance.

So now we have a new Lex Luthor. As with David Corenswet’s Superman, I will give Nicolas Hoult a fair chance at the role. Congratulations Nicholas on being cast as “the greatest criminal mind of our time”.

I was more intrigued by the prospect of one of the skarsgard brothers in the role, but Hoult is a decent choice. The key to Luthor is the blend of menace and charm. I felt Alex skarsgard had that, the only really villainous role I’ve seen with Hoult was The Menu, but he was more sniveling then charming. I’ll give it a chance. Speaking of charm, I do hope that gunn remembers that the key to superman is also the charm and the charisma to really sell the goodness of the character. I agree I was more intrigued by the Sarsgaard brothers angle, but like you guys have said, we need to give Nicholas a shot. Just hope he delivers a good performance. It was already been said. Hoping they play up the small relationship a little bit and kind of take it from there or at least have memories of meeting each other back then as well.
