October 17, 2021: Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum Talk About "Smallville" Animated Series

In an interview with CBR.com, while unable to give too many details on their planned "Smallville" animated series, Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum did explain the idea behind the concept.

"We just love the relationships and we love the characters on Smallville. I think a lot of people wish that it would keep going and there's possibilities --", said Rosenbaum.

"Yeah, one of the things I hear from fans is like, 'Why did you guys stop?!'" Welling interjected. "Well, I can give a million reasons why we stopped, but I also understand why a fan would want it to go on. I feel the same way about other projects that I'm a fan of, like, 'Keep going! Keep going!' And just there are limitations at some point."

"We ran out of story for Clark," he continued. "Clark had to become Superman, and Smallville could not be a Superman series. It just wasn't built that way. So what we're trying to do is sort of jumping into this other arena where we can maybe service that idea and have fun doing so."

In another interview at TVline.com, Welling speaks about his relationship with "Smallville" all these years later, how he feels about the show, and what he actually wore in the season finale episode.

"It was literally a shirt, and I don't recall if there were even sleeves. [Laughs] Not to even make this funny, but it was all about just popping open that shirt. So, it wasn't, like, a crop-top or whatnot, but it was basically a T-shirt and it was only for that instant. Like, we measured it so that when I hit a certain mark and open up my shirt, there was only going to be so many frames of film as I pass the camera. And that was on purpose, because the idea was that we wanted Clark to ascend to Superman — that people know he's out there but we can't go with him, at least not on this show. So, it was all by design, but that's a very good question. It was basically a version of a T-shirt."

"Smallville: The Complete Series 20th Anniversary Edition" will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on Tuesday, October 18. Order yours from Amazon.com.
