August 6, 2021: James Gunn Had The Suicide Squad Hunting Superman in Early Movie Plans
German film site Filmstarts has published an interview with director James Gunn in which he reveals that he toyed with the idea of having The Suicide Squad go up against a rogue Superman in an early draft of his film script."When I started writing The Suicide Squad, one idea was that they would fight Superman. The Suicide Squad has to catch Superman for some reason. That was all, just a vague idea. It's gotten out of hand or is being controlled by someone. And then this group of lousy super villains has to face the most powerful hero in the world."
While Superman doesn't make an appearance in the final version of "The Suicide Squad" movie, the Man of Steel does rate a mention, with Bloodsport in Belle Reve prison having seriously injured Superman by shooting him with a kryptonite bullet.
"The Suicide Squad" is now available in theaters around the world and on HBO Max in the USA.
