October 5, 1999: New Era for Superman books
DC Comics' family of SUPERMAN books enters a new era this week with a general change in direction, and the infusion of some major creative talent. Phil Jimenez (Invisibles) will supply the covers for the books all month long, starting with Jeph Loeb & Mike McKone's SUPERMAN #151, and continuing with Stuart Immonen, Mark Millar, Steve Epting, and Denis Rodier's ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN #573, Mark Schultz, Doug Mahnke, and Tom Nguyen's SUPERMAN: MAN OF STEEL #95, and Joe Kelly, German Garcia, and Joe Rubinstein's ACTION COMICS #760. I've read the first issue of each, and all are great stories, with each book focusing, respectively, on Superman's relation with his supporting cast, a look at the character through the eyes of average citizens, the sci-fi element, and extreme action. Following in Harley Quinn's footsteps, ADVENTURES #573 officially introduces Lex Luthor's bodyguard Mercy to the DCU.
