November 12, 1999: DC Comics Voted No.1 Comic Book Publisher of the Century
DC Comics was named the Favorite Publisher of the Century by the readers of Comics Buyer's Guide, the comics industry's preeminent weekly news publication.The award is a result of a poll conducted of comics fans and professionals that named DC #1 by an overwhelming margin of voters. DC, including its various sub-imprints such as VERTIGO, MAD Magazine and WILDSTORM PRODUCTIONS, laid claim as the favorite of 46.4% of all CBG readers, 31.3% of comics professionals, and 49.1% of general fandom, leaving competitor Marvel Comics a distant second.
Maggie Thompson, editor of Comics Buyer's Guide, said, "Over the history of comics, DC has supplied a firm foundation for the field. Its characters and publications have provided the ongoing face by which the public knows comic books."
Paul Levitz, DC's Executive Vice President & Publisher said "We're proud to be recognized for the creative accomplishments of DC and our legendary writers, artists, and characters over the past decades. We look forward to continuing to entertain our readers in the new millennium.
