Jon Cryer Talks About Changes to “Supergirl” Season 5 Finale

Jon Cryer

Jon Cryer participated in a social distancing edition of People TV’s “Couch Surfing”, where he looked back through some of his most interesting acting roles throughout his career, including his time playing Lenny Luthor in “Superman IV: The Quest for Peace”.

At the end of the episode Cryer comes to his role as Lex Luthor for the “Supergirl” TV series, discusses how he shoe-horned his way into the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover, and where things are at with Season 5 considering production was shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He reveals that some of the Season 5 finale was shot, but not all of it, and so the writers have had to find a different way to finish off the season, “Which is interesting because the way my character was thwarted now doesn’t happen anymore. So I was like, ‘Oh, did I not get defeated? Wait a minute, I like this!'”

The next new episode of “Supergirl” will air on The CW on Sunday, May 3. The Season 5 finale is scheduled for Sunday, May 17, which would indicate that the season has been cut down from 22 episodes to only 19 episodes.

At least it’s somthing for a season finale. 19 episodes may not be what I wanted for a season, but I’ll take what I can get. Saw this interview recently and when asked about S4, in particular, towards the end when Superman lifts the old car with him and Luthor in it. He said they had a large crane attached to the car and had CR wired to the bottom of the car as well. He also shortly after S4 was completed, asked CR how it came out. Reeve, according to him said, “it’s a mess” !!

With all the problems that Superman 4 had, Christopher Reeve definitely wasn’t one of them. He always knocked the role of Superman right out of the park. Sure Superman 4 the quest for peace wasn’t perfect. Far from it. I’m not going to deny that. And I’m a fan of S4. Sure it has its problems but I enjoy watching it. Call it a guilty pleasure, but any Superman movie staring Christopher Reeve as the Man of Steel , I’ll gladly and proudly watch. He’s my favorite Superman actor. 🙂
