Jacob Elordi Refused to Audition for Superman Saying, “That’s Too Dark for Me”

Jacob Elordi

In a recent interview with GQ Magazine, actor Jacob Elordi reveals he was asked to read for the lead role in “Superman: Legacy,” but turned down the idea.

Even though the Australian actor grew up admiring both Heath Ledger and Christian Bale, he says he couldn’t really see himself playing a superhero role.

“Not particularly, no. I’ve always been told to say a rounded answer or my agent will get mad at me. ‘Anything can happen!'” he says, with false cheer. “And obviously anything can happen, but at this stage in my life, I don’t see myself having any interest in that. I like to make what I would watch, and I get very restless watching those movies.”

While he has nothing against actor who do take on superhero movies, he’s personally not interested.

“And then I’m supposed to finish it with: ‘Never say never!'” Cue an ironic smile.

Elordi then reveals he was recently asked to audition for the role of Superman/Clark Kent in the upcoming movie “Superman: Legacy”.

“Well, they asked me to read for Superman,” he says. “That was immediately, ‘No, thank you.’ That’s too much. That’s too dark for me.”

How playing Superman is “too dark” isn’t clear. Either way, the role went to David Corenswet, who will play the role opposite Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.

“Superman: Legacy” is scheduled to be released July 11, 2025.

No disrespect, but I’ve never even heard of this actor. However, I would assume he’s referencing MOS for his “dark” cue. I can’t imagine anyone who knows anything bout Gunn would think he would play Superman as “dark”, especially with the All Star pics he seems to be so found of and considering how obviously he wants to distinguish his film from Snyder’s. Snyder’s Superman isn’t even dark, though the world he placed him in is. Strange take indeed.

If you read the whole story, he thinks Super Hero movies are too dark for him, he does not reference the script for Superman Legacy at all, other than to say when he was asked to read it, he immediately turned it down. I still have full confidence in James Gunn

Ah, I can only assume he’s referencing material like The Boyz and/or Invincible in which case I would agree. Really looking forward to this new Superman.
