James Gunn Talks About the Tone of “Superman: Legacy”

Superman: Legacy

In an interview with Rolling Stone, James Gunn spoke about the tone of his upcoming “Superman: Legacy” movie, saying it will be “quite different” from his new film “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3”.

“I learned so much from making these movies,” he says. “But it’s not like Superman is going to have exactly the same vibe as a Guardians movie. It’s actually quite different.”

As for whether Gunn would consider bringing in a live-action cinematic version of Krypto the Superdog, considering the success he’s had to the Guardian’s character of Rocket, Gunn laughs, “I think I would have an interest in a live-action Krypto whether or not I had anything to do with Rocket.”

“Superman: Legacy,” which will be written and directed by James Gunn, is scheduled to be released July 11, 2025.

This could quite frankly mean anything really. Will it be a bright positive Superman film? Will it be a more serious Superman film? Will it be somewhere in between? For now we don’t know. But hopefully it will be a Superman film that lives up to the name Superman, and inspire the audience and make them “believe a man can fly” again. 🙂
