Is Henry Cavill Confirmed as Playing Superman in “Black Adam”?

Black Adam and Superman

We tend to stear clear of unsubstantiated rumors here, but the rumor mill is going into overdrive over speculation (or supposed confirmed reports) that Henry Cavill is back as Superman in a post-credit scene in the movie “Black Adam”.

Dwayne Johnson has been very vocal for years now about wanting to see his Black Adam go up against Henry Cavill’s Superman… and it appears he may have gotten his wish… kind of.

If the rumors are to be believed, early screenings of “Black Adam” (which premieres on October 20 in the USA) have taken place, and a post-credit scene sees Henry Cavill’s Superman appear on screen saying the words, “We need to talk Black Adam.”

With “Black Adam” said to have the highest death count of any DC movie to date, it makes sense for Superman to show up to confront the anti-hero about his methods, if indeed this movie is set in a combined DC Universe continuity.

Reports are that Superman’s appearance will see him announced by the classic John Williams Superman theme rather than the Hans Zimmer “Man of Steel” theme. While that might seem a strange choice for fans of the 2013 movie, there’s no doubting the Williams theme has more recognition amongst moviegoers.

Additionally, Superman is said to be wearing the red and blue version of his “Man of Steel” costume, but with brighter colors.

With the release of “Black Adam” only a few weeks away, we won’t have to wait long to find out if these rumors are true or not.

Again, check the timestamps.

Start both films at the same time with a top-down formula.
Superman: The Movie on top. Subtitles on. Volume off.
Man of Steel on the bottom. Subtitles on. Volume on.

This is one of the more interesting concepts to what Snyder might have actually been creating for DC in the form of a Dark Multiverse.

That sounds pretty awful if true. It just sounds like the most generic, lame post credits scene they could possibly imagine. If they wanted to bring Cavill back for some kind of soft reboot/continuation from Man of Steel I would take that even though I’d much rather a straight up reboot, but crap like this little cameo and likely playing second fiddle in Black Adam 2? No thanks. Superman deserves better then this nonsense. Either bring Cavill back for a couple solo Superman movies or give Superman “The Batman” treatment and full on reboot. Enough with this garbage, failed shared… Read more »

So you’re saying DC Films needs a Crisis?

There’s are few thoughts that I have that come to mind about this article. First, if it is true that Cavill is back in the movies as his version of Superman, then to my friends who are Cavill Superman fans I say that I’m truly happy for you. For those of you who have wanted this, have asked for this and have campaigned for this on social media, and if it is true, then I say congratulations. The second thing that comes to mind is the music. Don’t get me wrong. I love the John Williams Superman theme song. I… Read more »

Since Tyler Hoechlin has a Superman series and will be starting his third season early next year, and if Cavill is indeed back in the role of superman for the movies, then why not have Brandon Routh’s Superman back again as well? A streaming network option is a excellent idea for Brandon Routh’s Superman. Routh has a fan base for his Superman. We can have more than one Superman. Why not have a crossover of the three Supermen? It did wonders for Spider-Man in Spider-Man No Way Home. A crossover of Routh’s, Cavill’s and Hoechlin’s versions of Superman could and… Read more »

There’s a lot in here that you wrote to break down but in the end what this should be about when it comes to Superman is that anything Superman belongs to Superman. From music to the House of El crest. So when you say that John Williams music belongs to specific Supermans (when it originated from one Superman) seems interesting based on the ones you said deserved it. All of those Supermans had certain elements that Snyder’s version didn’t have. Like The Fortress of Solitude and a traditional crest. The music by John Williams, because it’s as iconic as Reeve’s… Read more »

As far as I am aware, Zack Snyder wanted to approach Superman in the first Man of Steel movie like there hadn’t been one before. The John Williams theme in my opinion wouldn’t make sense if used from the start if he was going for a fresh take. I recall the 2017 version of JL and the scene where Cavill’s Superman shows up with the John Williams Superman theme. While it’s always awesome to hear that music, when watching the scene it didn’t make sense to me. As for Henry’s suit and the S symbol , I don’t think that… Read more »

Zack created something being used right now. Snyder took inspiration and ideas from a few stories when making Man of Steel. Like all the Multiverse Crisis type stuff and also the actual comic from 1986 Man of Steel. So DC is all about the Multiverse. And Snyder has established a very important “template” within the DC Multiverse. Just physical templates. The BIG thing about Superman & Lois is it was not part of the Arrowverse, which has history. And his Superman had worn other versions of the suit. The one his mom made him. But the symbol is what matters… Read more »

If we can get a multiverse project of Routh’s, Cavill’s and Hoechlin’s versions of Superman teaming up great! I’m all for that. 🙂

The writers for Tyler’s Superman (while not part of Reeve’s/Routh’s continuity) had taken inspiration from the Donner universe even the version of Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman from Supergirl’s series had taken some inspiration. The smiling at the family after Superman saves them from the drones in the season two premier of Supergirl for example and even his acting clumsy as Clark Kent when first walking into the CatCo building . Although Tyler has said that he didn’t watch any other versions of Superman, I have no doubt that the writers had incorporated some of the behavioral traits of Reeve’s Superman for… Read more »

But what was the true revelation of the second season of Superman & Lois?
It is not connected to the Arrowverse.
So there is poetry in the fact that the Fortress is where it is in their universe.
And inspiration is one thing. Seeds are something different.

I would say that the seeds of inspiration and influences are more so from Donner’s Superman then it is from the Arrowverse. While the new fortress like the island from the Arrow series is located in the middle of the ocean, it’s design is heavily influenced by the fortress design of the Donnerverse.

True that Arrowverse’s Superman is not the same as Superman from Superman and Lois as it was revealed by the end of season 2 of the series. As for Cavill’s symbol I’m pretty sure there’s been similar designs prior to the Man of Steel film. So maybe it’s a similar thing with the design with in the comic.

I think what DC might be implying is that this symbol is the mark of an evil Superman. It could potentially mean when you see that mark, it is a world that was taken over by Darkseid. Meaning he has a Superman fighting for him when it comes to war. Yes, the symbol has been seen before. On the series Krypton. Where Superman’s cape had the yellow traditional crest on the back of it. I think it had something to do with a timeline ending. Then there is Supergirl in The Flash movie that is wearing it. Some think she… Read more »

I had heard of a rumor of Darkside possibly showing up on Superman and Lois, but I’m taking it with a grain of salt until Superman Homepage confirms it. As for Supergirl in the Flash film, I really don’t know. It’s one of those things up for speculation at this time. We won’t really know until the film is out next year. I had forgotten about the cape on Krypton scene. But like I said before, it’s probably a variation of the S symbol and not necessarily the Man of Steel symbol. The continuity is different. Zod in Man of… Read more »

Also, remember how the series ended on a cliffhanger with Nyssa-Vex looking for her son (Jor-El) and she ended up on a planet controlled by Darkseid?
And Brainiac was taking an infant Jor-El to it’s universe’s Earth?
Then it was cancelled before they did Crisis on Infinite Earths TV style and a magic twin popped up in Superman’s life?

I think Darkseid was already present in season 2 when it came to Ally and him being part of season 3 when it comes to Bruno Mannheim.

I love it! I hope this is true. Even though I’d personally prefer for Henry Cavill to return as Superman in a new solo-film adventure, I’m just glad he’s back nonetheless. I’m looking forward to his cameo in “Black Adam.”
