DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn celebrated Superman Day on June 12 by posting an image on Twitter of various Superman costumes the character has worn over 85 years.
“One character changed the world. Adding to his legacy has already been one of the most joyful aspects of my life. Happy #SupermanDay”.
The post started a Twitter conversation in which one fan asked if the costume to be used in the upcoming film “Superman: Legacy” would include the red trunks or not.
Gunn responded to the question saying, “Undecided. We are doing incredible amounts of concept art now with both and we’ll use whatever version looks best. For me, the most important aspects of the character go beyond trunks!”

I feel like there’s a decent chance the trunks might come back. Gunn seems like the kind of guy who’d legitimately give them a chance and wouldn’t just scoff at the notion of them being included.
I hope we get the red trunks and yellow belt, it is such a perfect design, balances the colors, and is thus timeless. The Superman suit is the greatest of all time. I hope Gunn gets it right this time.
