In an interview with EW.com, Melissa Benoist talks about the series finale of “Supergirl,” how she feels about saying farewell to Kara, and whether she’s ever put the cape on again. Here’s an excerpt from the interview…
“I would say the end goal is to really come to terms with her powers and who she is as an alien on the planet, and then who she is as a human and finding a way to embrace both of them at once,” says Benoist, who believes this was the right time to say farewell to Kara. “I don’t know if I was ready to say goodbye to the characters, which I think is healthy. You always want to be sad and miss something and I’m so glad I didn’t have that, ‘Oh my gosh. I’m so ready.’ And just the feeling of wanting to throw it away and not think about it again. I definitely will miss playing the role, but I was ready for a break, personally.”
That being said, she doesn’t think this break will last forever and she’s open to throwing on the cape again in the future. “I am not opposed to putting on the suit again and I know there probably will be opportunities to,” she says. “It would have to feel right for the character and I know they would probably do it justice. I love playing with Grant Gustin. I love Tyler Hoechlin and Bitsie Tulloch on Superman & Lois. So no, I’m not opposed to it.”
I think it depends. Does she want to come back? Is she contracted to come back in crossover events or guest star in other CW shows? Maybe she will appear as Supergirl in a DCEU/CW crossover film. Ezra Miller’s Flash appeared in the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover two years ago, so I do think anything’s possible. I saw the latest episode of Legends of tomarrow and Brandon Routh came back to play the Atom for an episode. He will also play the role again in the upcoming Flash Armageddon crossover event. It would be cool if she appears in Superman & Lois tv show then teams up with her first and second cousins (Kal and Jordon) at some point. Appearances in crossovers would be great too.
Great news that she is open to guest starring! My first choice would be on Superman and Lois but I wouldn’t complain if it was the Flash.
No probs with S&L or The Flash…Too bad Stargirl, which, along with S&L are giving the CW Verse two major hits, does not exist in Supergirl’s earth. Stargirl needs a mentor to help her out…Kara could, would, should be that mentor.
That is a great idea. It’s not like hopping universes has ever been an impediment to the shows. That would be an awesome team-up!
I honestly don’t know if its a good idea for Supergirl to guest star on Superman and Lois. I just think that if she were to show up, then Superman would play second fiddle to her on his own show, and that might mess up Tyler’s Superman’s image all over again. Tyler’s Superman has come so far since the start of his series. If Supergirl shows up to steal the spotlight, then I fear Superman’s own importance will be set back to what it was prior the start of Superman and Lois.
