Voice of Mxyzptlk, Gilbert Gottfried Dies, Aged 67

Gilbert Gottfried

Comedian and actor Gilbert Gottfried has passed away, aged 67, after battling a long illness.

While the wider world will most likely know him best as the voice of Iago the parrot in Disney’s animated movie “Aladdin,” Superman fans will forever remember Gottfried as the voice of Mr. Mxyzptlk in “Superman: The Animated Series”.

With one of the most distinct voices in Hollywood, Gottfried also appeared in an episode of the 1980s “Superboy” TV series, playing the role of Nick Knack, a mechanical genius with an affinity for toys.

Gottfried would return to voice the role of Mxyzptlk in the “Justice League Action” animated series.

“We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved Gilbert Gottfried after a long illness. In addition to being the most iconic voice in comedy, Gilbert was a wonderful husband, brother, friend and father to his two young children. Although today is a sad day for all of us, please keep laughing as loud as possible in Gilbert’s honor,” his family wrote on Twitter.

Gilbert Gottfried is survived by his wife, Dara Kravitz, and two children, Lily and Max. Our condolences to his family and friends.
